PARTICULARIDADES DE LOS ADJETIVOS CARDINALES.
a.) Podemos expresar el nmero cero de varias formas:
- nought o naught, usado de forma genrica y en matemticas.
- zero, usado normalmente para indicar la temperatura. Tambin en matemticas:
Five degrees below zero / Cinco grados bajo cero
- o (pronunciado: oh), se usa genricamente y para indicar los nmeros de telfono, tarjetas de crdito, pasaporte, etc (en U.K., En USA es ms usual decir 'zero' para estos nmeros).
| My telephone number is 01204 (o - one - two - o - four) = U.K. (zero - one - two - zero - four) = USA - nil, usado generalmente para indicar resultados de algunos encuentros deportivos, como el ftbol y el rugby. En tenis se dice 'love' por cero. Spain beat two-nil / Espaa gan a Francia dos a cero b.)Separamos con un guin las unidades que siguen a las decenas, a partir del nmero 20 34 = thirty-four 78 = seventy-eight Los nmeros entre 100 y 1000 unen las centenas y decenas con 'and' 247 = two hundred and forty-seven Los millares pueden leerse como grupos de dos. Se incluye la partcula de unin 'and' si el valor de la centena es menor de cien. 1995 = nineteen ninety-nine 1020 = a thousand and twenty |
PARTICULARIDADES DE LOS ADJETIVOS ORDINALES
Se forman aadiendo el sufijo -th al nmero, a excepcin de los 3 primeros (first, second, third).
Se expresan de forma abreviada aadiendo a las cifras las dos ltimas letras del ordinal.
1 = 1st 2 = 2nd 3 = 3rd 4 = 4th 5 = 5th ......
NUMEROS FRACIONARIOS Y MULTIPLICATIVOS
Para expresar un nmero fraccionario nombramos el numerador como nmero cardinal y el denominador como nmero ordinal.
2/3 = two thirds = dos tercios 1/4 = one fourth (a quarter) = un cuarto
Los nmeros multiplicativos son:
one, only = uno single = uno solo double = doble treble = triple
quadruple = cudruple quintuple = quntuple sixfold = seis veces (sxtuplo)
sevenfold = siete veces eightfold = ocho veces ... etc.
